Baby gates and cats There comes a time when parents decide to make their home a safer place for baby. Problem is that you have another baby, a cat. I find cat owners are very devoted to their 4 pawed friends.Ok heres the problem. You have a cat. Its no longer able to jump a baby gate. Either too old , to fat or too complacent. ( In most cases they can sueeze under even though they don’t look like they could. I have a 18 pound cat that can. ) Now what am I going to do ? Unfortunately there is no good answer. If you set your gate high enough for your cat, your toddler can slip under it and get caught or worse. Maybe a hole in the gate. Nope that didn’t work either. My kid gets his head stuck in it. Wait I found a company that has a patented gate with a small pet door in it. After reading about the gate I realized they were very specific .This is for pets only! So what options are there. Now you need to decide what are your priorities. Your child or your cat. This is the reality of it. There are no options other than to restrict the area your cat is in, or take a risk with your child. I once owned 28 cats at one time. I can sympothize I am definately a cat lover. I have tried to design a gate for cats. I am convinced a 4″ round hole would work. Where as a 4″ square hole wouldn’t. So if I make a gate with a 4 inch round hole in it heres my new problem. It gives your little guy or girl something to stand on and get over the gate. So unfortunately I am in a situation of saying I still have no answer. Will continue to try and find a answer. Mark W Saincome http://www.dmtoddlersafety.com

Business to Business (B2B) portals are the most innovative trading tool in the world. Nowadays, majority of international traders use B2B portals apart from conventional trading models. Yet the companies which are listed in the portals do not give much importance for presenting their company profile with right details. If necessary care is given to this end, the companies can guarantee desired results. Important points one should take into consideration while signing up are the following:

. Register with an e-mail id one ‘often’ uses.

. Select the correct type of one’s business. For example: Exporter, Importer, etc.

. Contact address should have all the details including phone numbers with international codes, website, etc.

. Contact person’s name, preferably of the person who has signed up.

. Company description should be a well thought out one, and should have professional touch, to give added value to one’s company and its business activities.

. Choose appropriate sector- i.e. if one is in the agri-business sector and have various related businesses of the respective sector, then one can use the broad-based term agri-business as one’s company’s sector. But if one is in a specific sub-sector, one should choose that particular sector to get maximum business inquires from interested members.

. Mention time frame for dispatching one’s products or services.

. Mention minimum or maximum acceptable amount of one’s trade deal, according to one’s type of business.

. Acceptable time delay on payments also should be made available as added information.

. Choose incoterms which can give full protection against payment.

. Regions or countries one can be part of the trade.

If one is already a member and one’s company profile needs changes, the profile should be updated as and when required including contact information, company description, etc. And after creating or updating one’s profile, one should start looking for profiles of one’s business interest and should try to contact them through available tools; mostly it would be limited to the portal which one has been registered. But if one wishes to take one’s business communication beyond the topical portal, one may be prompted to become the premium member.

Yet within most portals, one could send message to other profiles; through this channel one should try to make contact. If one is a free member, one has to be satisfied with limited access. Most of the members whom one would have contacted, in all likelihood would desist from responding because one is with a free status and there are many crank users these days whom which misuse B2Bs. Therefore, recipients fear that even after prolonged negotiations, chances of striking a deal would be a distant one.

Even if one becomes a paid up member of these portals, instead of waiting for the promised inquiries by the portals, one should take pro-active measures to invite interest in one’s products or services by other related businesses in the database. Thus, one can improve one’s chances of doing business through B2Bs faster than one would have imagined. If one takes the services of top B2B portals and use it/them in the right manner researches show that businesses have immensely benefited not just by deriving few business opportunities, rather one was able to establish a long-term business relationship with their clients.

Every business should be aware of the effect they are having on the environment, and searching for more eco-friendly ways of doing things is a great way not only to help the world around you, but also to promote your business in the best possible way.

There is much more concern nowadays about what we are doing to the environment, and if your business is seen to be standing up and taking responsibility for its actions and encouraging others to do the same, you’ll receive a huge boost in positive publicity.

But how can you do this? Can you really advertise your business, save on costs and be eco-friendly at the same time?

The good news is that you can. Thanks to reusable bags you can now splash your company name and logo across all the bags your customers’ use – and what’s more, you’ll know that they will keep reusing these bags for many months and even years to come, providing a long lasting eco-friendly advert for you which brings in more business and saves you a lot of money in the long run.

All this is made possible thanks to non woven polypropylene or NWPP for short, which has taken the world of long lasting bags by storm. Not only is this material reusable, giving your customers’ a good reason to stop using the plastic bags which are so damaging to the environment, it is also recyclable, meaning that when these tough bags finally do reach the end of their useful life, they can be recycled and made all over again! There is no chance that a bag made of non woven polypropylene will ever harm the environment as it simply doesn’t clog up the landfills like its plastic counterparts do.

So just imagine the good it will do your business to have your name displayed on a bag that is this good to the environment. It will cost you more initially to buy the bags, but when you consider the benefits involved with buying them, there really is no better choice!

It’s the longevity of these bags that makes them so cost effective. Rather than acting as something that a customer can carry their purchases home in, a bag made from NWPP is so much more than this. It’s a long term advertisement for your business that tells other people how much you care about the environment. Once you buy your first batch of NWPP bags, you will find you need to order far less in the future. That’s because your customers will gradually start to re-use the bags they have instead of continually using more and more damaging plastic ones.

It also gives you and your customers the opportunity to come together and raise awareness of the need to be environmentally friendly. Every time one of your bags is seen in public, it increases the chance that more people will come to use and rely on the bag that keeps coming back for more!

The environmentally friendly tag has been banded around as a marketing gimmick in the motor industry for years however it seems that now there are some major companies that are really investing in the technology. I doubt whether it is time for the oil executives to start sweating however there are is some good eco news and this article gives an overview of the latest environmentally friendly developments to hit the motor trade.

One of the biggest companies in the world is General Motors and uses the UK branding of Vauxhall Motors. There has been a campaign in the United States by a neurotic neurologist to rally up support for the latest GM model of electric car. The Chevrolet Volt was initial unveiled as a concept car however the website set up by the number one Volt fan has drawn in 33,341 signatures claiming they would purchase the car.

With everything in eco news it is all about feasibility. GM will not mass produce the car unless they can guarantee a return on it. The price tag GM is requesting is 40,000 dollars however on the website the prospective buyers have listed a maximum price they would expect pay at 31,261 dollars. With the GM price tag and assuming that all the prospective buyers actually buy GM would accumulate 1,336,440,000 dollars however there is no mention of how much the car would take to build and market.

There was a meeting between GM execs and the Volt car fans earlier in 2008 to discuss the issues and the car is suspected to arrive in 2010. Another major company that has been given the eco makeover is Range Rover. It must be made clear however that this is not done by the manufacturer who seem to be content churning out gas-guzzling Chelsea tractors, but by another company called Liberty Electric Cars.

They work on a build to order basis and are completely sold out until 2009. They have two different models which are priced 125,000GBP and 95,000GBP accordingly which come with all the trimmings including one years free electricity. This is a price tag that would usually appear on the balance of a mortgage, certainly not the price tag of a car but as with many innovative technologies is it is a success then it might well get picked up in more affordable formats.

Most manufacturers seem to be more interested in unveiling the next electric supercar which can achieve the most eco-friendly 0-60 acceleration record. Someday when they are finish flexing their design power then maybe the technology will leak through into the mass market in more cost effective models such as the NICE Megacity electric car which has a price tag of 10,000GBP however can only achieve 40mph.

It’s a generally well-known issue that climate change is a serious threat to the future of the planet – and the human race. Businesses and corporations have latched on to the commercial benefits of becoming eco-friendly; so, as well as doing their bit for the environment they can also benefit from publicly announcing their environmental attitude.

A lot of CO2 emissions come from the exhaust pipes of transport vehicles: cars, aeroplanes, buses, etc, which is why it’s important that people strive to take the most ecological transport means to their destination. Cities are improving public transport routes and introducing public bicycle schemes; rural areas are developing better cycle paths joining major locations; but in our current society, it’s impossible to eliminate the need – however sporadic or frequent – for personal motorised transport.

Whether you’re driving your own car or hiring one out, there are plenty of ways you can drive that will help reduce the emissions you produce which can save money and save the car, as well as contribute to saving the environment! By making some small driving tweaks, you could not only decrease your environmental impact, but also improve your driving experience.

Saving fuel is one of the primary things you can do to reduce emissions. Driving smoothly can save up to eight per cent of your normal output. Switching off your engine when you know you’ll be stationary for more than two minutes also saves more than you think. It may seem like a hassle, but cutting the engine while you’re in traffic or waiting for the light to turn green can really make a difference. The more fuel you save, the further you’ll go with less impact on the environment – and less money spent.

Other ways to save on fuel include avoiding any unnecessary revving, planning your trip so you don’t get lost and switching gears when you ought to. At 37mph, a vehicle in fifth gear typically uses around 25 per cent less than at 37mph in third gear. That’s a huge difference – so make sure you’re shifting gears correctly.

Well looked-after vehicles enjoy journeys that are easier on their engines. By ensuring tyre pressure is correct, you could shrink resistance which in turn means a smoother ride and less CO2 output. What’s more, by reducing drag – the slowing down of your vehicle due to greater wind resistance – you could save more still on fuel. By removing unnecessary weight – like roof racks and items in the boot – your vehicle will find lighter air resistance and therefore consume less fuel while moving forward.

It’s really not difficult to make a few small changes that will change your environmental impact. Car manufacturers and car hire companies actively encourage such habits – you can no doubt discuss any concerns with them whilst buying/renting. A few changes today could make a big difference tomorrow, so make sure you’re doing your part to help the planet battle climate change.

The modern prefab and modular homes are experiencing a resurgence for many reasons. These days it seems architects and designers are eager to create new environmental-chic versions of the modular home, and these new designs offer so much versatility and and appeal that their popularity is naturally on the rise. With the employment of new methods of construction and transportation, designers are cutting waste and energy consumption, slashing production costs while achieving greater overall methods of sustainability.

Before diving into the interesting benefits if investing in these new homes, let’s take a look at the definitions of prefab/prefabrication and modular, and then take a closer look at the new and modern prefab modular homes.

Prefabrication is the practice of assembling parts in a factory, then transporting the complete or partial module to the construction site. Modular homes are homes in which there are design elements that are separate modules of the whole that can be used interchangeably to create different designs. Modular design, benefits the buyer because the interchangeable components can be moved around to better accommodate different spaces, styles, and needs. Think Rubik’s cube- the premise of the modular aspect of a home is similar. As long as the exterior dimensions remain the same, the rooms and walls within a design can be shuffled around.

So, what are the benefits of these new homes that combine elements of both prefabrication and modularity? First off, as already mentioned, the modular aspect of these homes, makes it possible to design a home that’ll complement the space you are placing it on. You can play around with a variety of different designs and create the perfect fit.

Since the modules are constructed in a factory, a high quality of construction is ensured. The fasteners are accurately applied, materials are cut with more exactness, and since they have to be transported, everything is tighter and more secure. This extends the life span and cuts on upkeep. Modular prefabrication factories also produce less waste as compared to standard home construction. The production of modular homes generates somewhere around 2% of waste, as compared with the 30-40% of wasted material generated from a standard home construction. Additionally, since the duration of pre-fab modular construction is shorter, and so the cost of production is lower.

Many companies use a very responsible cradle to cradle method of transportation. With this method, the components of the home are intended to be flat and standard and so the design can be sent to a computer and cut in masses at regional locations, packed flat and then shipped to local distribution areas.

Companies like Michelle Kaufman Designs are very conscious of the building materials they use. Sustainable touches with her designs include bamboo floors, energy efficient windows and doors and thick insulation. Her designs promote natural cooling, through the use of long shallow spaces and cross-ventilation. The need for artificial lighting is reduced with the gliding glass wall design and the placement of clerestory windows. Some homes include water conserving toilets, faucets and bathroom counter tops made of Richlite, a recycled-paper product. Outside, exterior walls are made of maintenance-free Cor-Ten steel, Galvalume (anodized alloy-coated steel), Hardi panels (cement board) or sustainable harvested Western red cedar planks.

Through afford ability and convenience, the development of the new modular pre-fab homes has brought eco-chic construction to a wider audience so that we many continue to live well, but tread lightly.

Think you have a little southpaw on your hands? If you were wondering about your baby, it may be too early to tell. I’m not just talking about talent here. How can you tell if your baby is starting to favor his left or right hand? It’s pretty safe to assume that your baby is right-handed. Most of us are. In fact, about 85%, or even more, of the population is right-handed.

As babies start to play and hold objects in their hands, they will use each hand. A baby will want to explore how to object looks and feels in his hand, then he will put the object in his other hand. One day, all the toys he touches and holds will be with one hand, next week it will be with another hand. Around two years of age, maybe a little sooner, your little one start holding onto writing objects. They will start throwing balls and other toys.

Watch which hand the baby is throwing and coloring with. It will take some time see which hand his preferred. Around age three is when a more definitive preference is shown. Don’t be in a big hurry or force the issue.

Also, once your child starts to show a preference toward one hand or other, don’t force her to be something she isn’t. Perhaps you are right-handed and want your child to be right-handed. You think it might be easier for the child: buying scissors, ball gloves, playing sports, learning to write, etc. But, you may be making things harder in the long run. Keeping with the example of forcing right-handedness on a left-hand child, you could cause a learning delay. Because the child is having to focus so much on overcoming a dominance issue, they can’t focus on learning. Remember, let the child choose. And they will, when in their own good time.

I have a right-handed son and a left-handed son. Since my husband and I are both right-handed we assumed all our children would be, too. Our second son has proved us wrong. He started showing favor to left-hand around two years old. When he threw the ball, it was most often with his left, the same with coloring. By the time he was three, his left-hand dominance was a given. He did everything with a left-hand dominance. We don’t force the issue. We have called upon left-handed friends and family to find out how to teach him how to do certain things, like tie his shoes. Sometimes, we just have to practice doing something left-handed to figure out the best way to teach him.

Just think of left-hand/right-hand dominance as the last great unknown. Pregnant, not pregnant. Boy or girl. Right or left-handed.

Every organization needs Promotional Products to create a unified, professional look for the workplace and to use as Corporate Gifts. Uniforms and office items are a must, but when choosing Promotional Items to give away, what message should they convey? As climate change concerns skyrocket, there is one easy way to show that your business is committed to the solution and that through environmentally-conscience Promotional Gifts. Using environmentally friendly promotional products will help you and your business do your part to save the world.

‘Eco-friendly’ or ‘Environmentally friendly’ means that their products pose no harmful effects on the environment or its inhabitants. This includes the methods being used to produce merchandise. Unlike petroleum-based (traditional) plastics, biodegradable plastic does not produce greenhouse gases as it is formed because it is made from plant fibers. Since the aim to have as little affect on the earth as possible, these companies ensure that all products are made in a way that avoids clear-cutting forests, wasting water, using insecticides, burning fossil fuels, etc. They support the use of eco friendly products and encourage others to pave the way for a brighter, cleaner future.

Did you know that a plastic beverage bottle takes roughly 450 years to decompose? Take a look at the numbers found by the U.S. National Park Service:

Across the globe, businesses are taking the initiative to become more environmentally conscious in almost every aspect of their operation. To help reduce negative impacts on the environment, businesses are now turning to eco-friendly promotional products as a wholesome marketing solution. Choosing these products is not as difficult as it sounds. You don’t need to make-over your staff with organic hemp clothing or spend a fortune on hybrid delivery trucks, it can start with simple choices.

Many online promotional product distributors offer a selection of environmentally friendly products. For example, InkHead.com recently adds recycled and Earth Friendly EcoSmart product line. Here are some great Promotional Products that will show your company’s commitment to the environment, without breaking the bank:

Re-usable Water Bottles: Have your logo added to Nalgene-type bottles and hand them out to employees and customers. Encourage everyone to refill their bottles instead of purchasing new water bottles every time.

Insulated Coffee Mugs: Using re-usable coffee mugs as promotional products is a great way to ensure your marketing message and logo travels everywhere your employees and customers do. Not only will you gain exposure, you’ll also get recognition as a company who is concerned about the future of the earth. Adding an inspirational message about “going green” in addition to your logo is also a great idea.

Tote Bags: There has recently been a lot of media-hype around the flood of plastic grocery bags in city landfills. Considering the lengthy time (20 years) it takes for bags to break down, Tote Bags are a healthy solution for the earth. Offer them to customers with purchases or sell them as your own brand. Your bags will be used for years, if not decades to come. You can turn any shopper into your own billboard, by having your logo and personal message added.

There are many great ways to reduce negative effect of modern industries on the earth. As environmental concern rises, cater to your conscience customers by showing you are dedicated to positive solutions, one step at a time.

Congratulations on a new baby in your life! Allow me to share 10 major considerations involved in choosing a perfect name:

1) Gender. An initial consideration is the baby’s gender. Knowing this will considerably narrow the field. Make sure your selections are gender-appropriate. Don’t choose a girl’s name for a boy or vice versa.

2) Ancestry. Including the name of an ancestor or loved relative is a noble consideration. What were the names of your great grandparents? Perhaps these would make suitable middle names. It shows family pride, tradition, and heritage.

3) Help. Use good baby name sites or books.  One example is:  Baby Names and Meanings When You Are Pregnant.  Initially, gather several options then use guidelines that follow to thin down the list. Give yourself every chance of success. Certainly, ending up with zero names on the list won’t work and may leave you feeling defeated or disappointed. In-fact, you might keep 2 or 3 options on the list until the baby is born saving the final selection for that special moment.

4) Meaning. Take care in selecting names with flattering meanings. Meaning considerations should include not only the literal translation, but historical as well. Avoid overly cute names. In Chinese culture, babies are sometimes given a “milk name” such as “Cutie” at birth, or two characters that sound cute when said together. However, these are not appropriate legal names. Remember, one day the child will be an adult. In China, permanent names are chosen within a month of birth which is or has been the period allowed before registration. Refrain from using negative meanings. Desdemona is a Greek name for girls meaning “of the devil”, Fraco is a Spanish name for boys meaning “weak”, and Alda is a German name for girls meaning “old”. Instead, collect options that mean sweet, strong, graceful, or noble. Literal translations should include different languages. Muet may sound like a pretty name for a girl, but it means “dumb man” in French. Consider how the name might be abbreviated or used to form profane rhymes or nicknames such as “Farty Arty”, etc. On the other hand, predict nicknames you may like such as Stephen as Steve. And finally, be aware of meanings formed by initials as well. For example, Daniel Otto Griffin (DOG), or Angela Paige Eade (APE) may not be the best selections.

5) Association. Are religious affiliations important to your family? Names of Saints may be desirable. Past Presidents, leaders, or prominent historical figures can be attractive. Research the names to assure no derogatory connotation. Unfortunately, otherwise acceptable names such as Adolph or Attila fall into this category. Attila and “scourge of God” have at one time been considered synonyms.

6) Experience. Life is constantly changing, but there’s no reason to choose a name that conjures up painful memories of places, experiences, or previous relationships.

7) Continuity. How does baby’s name fit in with the rest of the family? Fathers sometimes wish to name their first son after themselves. How does the name sound when spoken or written on a Christmas card together with baby’s brothers and sisters?

Pronunciation. The full name must flow well through first, middle, and last. Think about whether it’s easy to say and spell. Say the full name out loud several times to feel and hear it yourself. Ask if it’s easily confused with another name. Kirsten is often misspoken as Kristen. Do you want your daughter correcting people her entire life?

9) Popularity. What matters most is whether the husband and wife like their child’s name. Compromise is recommended during these negotiations. Let selecting your baby’s name be a positive experience maximizing the satisfaction of both parents even if both don’t get everything they want. Next come opinions of grandparents and extended family. Then friends. Remember, popularity changes over time. Avoid selecting names based on the latest fad or trend.

10) Commonality. Whether baby’s name is common or unusual is a personal decision but a factor worth consideration. Names that are too unusual may evoke teasing from other children. On the other hand, a less common name enforces the special distinction of their unique nature.

Again, congratulations and I hope the advice given has helped ease this important decision.

With these days’ in dire need for “environmental cars”, Volvo Cars Driving Academy is having a growing demand for its eco-driving course.

Tommy Andersson, chief instructor at the Volvo Cars Driving Academy, commented it is possible to lessen fuel costs and have a better effect on the environment through changing one’s driving motive.

The Volvo Cars Driving Academy is a relatively unknown division of Volvo Cars’ operations. It has been around in various forms since 1989 giving instructions in winter driving, safety driving, and security driving.

Andersson explains the academy offers a wide variety of courses every year for professional drivers and private individuals. He explained further safety driving is still their biggest-seller, but the demand for eco-driving is increasing.

VEAB Mark & Trädgård, a Swedish construction service provider, is one of the companies that opted to enroll its employees in the eco-driving course at the Volvo Cars Driving Academy.

HÃ¥kan Persson, President of VEAB, says many of their clients demand the course if they are to be included in their purchasing contracts. He adds that they work on behalf of big companies, the municipality and the Swedish Road Administration. He affirmed their ISO 14001 environmental certification. He also said allowing employees to undergo an eco-driving course at the Volvo Cars Driving Academy is a wise investment.

Like many of the Academy’s students before, the VEAB employees are small groups (12) and the students are skeptical and most believe they already drive with a green foot or at least know how to.

They first get to drive a set urban route with the Volvo Cars Driving Academy’s cars, which are equipped with measuring devices for exact fuel consumption. A lesson in eco-driving then follows. And then, students drive the same route again, applying their newly learned eco-driving skills.

Students at the Volvo Cars Driving Academy are more than satisfied when they receive their certificates.

Stefan Fredriksson, landscape gardener, commented that from now on, he will be thinking more about which road he would choose. He continues that he will avoid roads with many traffic lights where the traffic has to stop so often.

Andersson predicts that enrolment in the Academy’s eco-driving course will increase. According to him, his aim is to focus more on environmentally friendly eco-driving. For example, he said, they are discussing cooperation with companies and municipalities with regard company cars and pool cars. He further said that it is only a matter of time before they realize what they stand to gain by giving everyone the knowledge about this issue.

Since Volvo is targeting an eco-friendly drive, expect that toxicity of emissions form its cars’ internal combustion engines are reduced because of its Volvo catalytic converter.
