Best baby names for 2006

Naming a Girl, is an exciting, yet delicate thing.

Some people don’t realize that a name is something a child has forever. Which brings me to the point of suitable and unsuitable names for a newborn child. I am not going to preach to people on what they can and cannot call their child but i believe that there are a few guidelines to be followed:

1: A child (girls in particular) should be given a human name Eg. Jessica. Not a cars name, Eg. Mercedes, Ferrari, Tigra.

2: I have a friend, an 18 year old girl, who has just had a daughter. Both parents are English/Caucasian so why have the named their baby girl….Shanhai? I believe you should stick to names of specific origin. If your name is John, your partners name is Lynn, don’t call your little bundle of joy Lin Chow, you get me?

3: My most hated name for a Girl – Chelsea. Why name your daughter after a town in London? I wish someone would explain this to me. You wouldn’t call your daughter Gateshead, Romford, or Peterborough for that matter, would you? So why Chelsea?

4: A pregnant girl of 14 in my local area admitted that she tried to conceive as it is the latest trend among teens – what happened to Kickers? Upon being asked by the local papers what she is hoping for, her reply was “I’m not fussed, but if its a girl i’ll call it ‘Shanika-Leigh’ and if its a boy I’ll call it Dante or Coty.” Why? Whats wrong with Bethany? or Daniel? Modernized versions of foreign names for British children also seems to be the ‘in’ thing.

Like I say, sorry if I seem like I’m preaching, but I have strong beliefs that certain things should be kept to basics.
